Protostar
Signature hybrid yo-yo for John Ando
The signature yo-yo for John Ando, Protostar is a YoYoFactory hybrid with a polycarbonate body and a metal weight ring at the rim, released in late 2009.
Part of YoYoFactory's «Death to Metal» plastic line, it was first shown as a prototype at the 2009 World YoYo Contest. The weight ring is 6061 aluminum. It measures 55.94 mm in diameter and 43.15 mm in width, and ships unresponsive, with a Center Trac bearing and 19mm response pads.
Protostar became the base for two 2010 follow-ups: Jensen Kimmitt's Northstar, 2.5 to 3 grams heavier, and Rockstar, the model John Ando's Shaqler Yo-Yo Crew used to win Artistic Performance at the World YoYo Contest 2010.
The Victor Gravitskiy Edition is a special colorway for Russian National 1A Champion Victor Gravitskiy.
